1 tb Shortening
1 oz Unsweetened chocolate
squares 1/2 c Butter or margarine
softened 1/2 c Shortening
2 c Sugar
4 Eggs
1/2 ts Baking soda
1 c Buttermilk
3 c All purpose flour
1/8 ts Salt
2 ts Vanilla e tract
1 ts Almond e tract

Melt 1 tablespoon shortening and unsweetened chocolate in a small saucepan, stirring until smooth. Set aside. Cream butter and shortening gradually add sugar to creamed mi ture, beating well at medium speed of an electric mi er. Add eggs, one at a time, beating after each addition. Dissolve soda in buttermilk. Combine flour and salt add to creamed mi ture alternately with buttermilk, beginning and ending with flour mi ture. Mi just until blended after each addition. Stir in flavorings. Remove 2 cups of batter, and add chocolate mi ture, stirring until blended. Spoon one third of remaining plain batter into a greased and floured 10 inch tube pan top with half of chocolate batter. Repeat layers, ending with plain batter. Gently swirl batter with a knife to create a marble effect. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour or until a wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan 10 to 15 minutes remove from pan, and let cool completely on a wire rack.

1 Smoked Haddock 2 tablespoons butter 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1 cup Milk Or Half And Half pepper Skin the haddock, and cut in serving sized or bite sized pieces. Melt butter in heavy frying pan. Add fish, sprinkle with pepper, cover tightly, and cook v ery gently for about five minutes or so. Mi a little milk into the cornstarch and blend smooth then add remaining milk. Pour this over fish.
